As part of efforts to ensure maritime operators are abreast with International Commercial Terms (incoterms) relating with international laws, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has entered partnership with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) for the sensitization of stakeholders on incoterms 2020.
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr. Hassan Bello made the call during a courtesy visit to the ICC office recently in Lagos, following the review of the incoterms 2020 which has already been published by ICC.
Bello, who was represented by the Director, Consumer Affairs, Chief C.C Agu stated that the visit was to collaborate with the ICC in the areas of trade facilitation and also to create awareness on the new incoterms 2020 among stakeholders in the shipping industry in line with both organizations mandate.
Speaking also on Local Shipping Charges imposed on shippers by the shipping companies and port congestion, Chief Agu, stressed the need for the immediate implementation of the study of gridlock and for electronic schedule for trucks,as well as the installation of an electronic gate for access into the Port and a good railway system from the Lagos Port to the Port Harcourt, Kano axis.
The Secretary General of ICC Mrs. Olubunmi Osuntayi in her response, congratulated the NSC for its impact and relationship with international bodies and its position in protecting the interests of the traders so they are not taken for granted.
She also advocated for a new approach such as online training for NSC members of staff, capacity building and equipment for importers and exporters.
