NIWA Gets Non-Professional MD
Another non-maritime professional has been appointed to head a key maritime agency, as President Muhammadu Buhari last week appointed Boss Gida Mustapha as the new Managing Director of the National Inland Waterway Authority (NIWA).
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir David Lawal made the announcement in a statement signed by the Director Press Mr. Bolaji Adebiyi.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Boss Gida Mustapha, as the new Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Mustapha takes over from the acting Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Danladi Ibrahim who was appointed last year after the resignation of Mr. Inna Maryam Ciroma, a former minister of Women Affairs.
Mr. Mustapha is a lawyer with extensive experience in both private and public sectors in management positions. The appointment is for a term of four years in the first instance.” the statement read.
Mustapha, who hails from Adamawa was a Deputy National Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the legacy parties that formed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was also Chairman of the APC 7-man committee that undertook the screening of 27 aspirants seeking to clinch the party’s gubernatorial ticket in the Kogi State last election.
