NITT, NPA Renew Partnership
R-L: The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman, the Director General, Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf and NITT’s Registrar, Mr. Sule Bello when NITT paid a courtesy visit to the NPA headquarters this week.

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) has renewed its partnership with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to foster professionalism in the Transport sector.

NITT Director General, Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf, who led the institution on the visit noted that the core mandate of the institute is to professionalize the personnel in the nation’s transportation industry including the port sector.

He noted that the institute is the apex multimodal transport training and research institute mandated to professionalize the transport industry in Nigeria.

“NITT has enjoyed a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship with the Nigerian Ports Authority. Just few years ago, NPA was the organization’s highest number of staff undergoing training at the institute. However, in recent times that patronage has been dwindling due to some misleading information about our programmes”

“It is on this basis that we seek for renewal partnership and a closer working relationship, especially now that our own ‘sister’ is at the helm of affairs at the NPA” Dr. Aminu said.

Dr. Aminu also said that the institute has established outreach learning centres in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Gombe to cater for clients who are interested in the studying but are constrained by time or location.

He appealed to the NPA to invest in the infrastructural development of the institute and jointly carry out research projects on transport and logistics to further find solutions on specific problems in the industry.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman commended NITT for the visit while she affirmed that some of the NITT courses attended by NPA staff had improved their performances on their jobs.

“We would continue as partners in progress for this great nation and we would also love to further strengthen our relationship. There may have been challenges in the past but hopefully things will get better”, Hadiza said.

However, she expressed worry over the accreditation of some NITT courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and she asked to be clarified on the institute’s affinity with the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
