Nigeria’s Diesel, Cooking Gas Prices Increased In July – NBS
The average prices of diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas, also known as cooking gas, rose in July after declining in June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The latest data obtained from the NBS showed that the average price paid by consumers for Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) increased by 0.12 per cent month-on-month and 10.10 per cent year-on-year to N224.96 in July from N224.69 in June.
The NBS said states with the highest average price of diesel were Borno (N258.89), Niger (N243.75) and Kwara (N243.00), while states with the lowest average price were Rivers (N204.06), Plateau (N202.00) and Bayelsa (N195.00).
The average price paid by consumers for diesel had decreased by 1.46 per cent to N224.69 in June from to N228.02 in May, the NBS data showed.
The average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for LPG increased by 1.47 per cent month-on-month and 0.71 per cent year-on-year to N2,024.80 in July from N1,995.38 in June.
States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for LPG were Adamawa (N2,492.50), Bauchi (N2,487.78) and Borno (N2,375.00), while those with the lowest average price were Rivers (N204.06), Plateau (N202.00) and Bayelsa (N195.00).
The average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for LPG had dropped by 1.61 per cent to N1,995.38 in June from N2,028.04 in May.
The average prices paid by consumers for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and household kerosene declined last month.
The average price of petrol decreased by 1.2 per cent year-on-year and 0.2 per cent month-on-month to N145.0 in July from N145.4 in June.
States with the highest average price of petrol were Kwara (N146.67), Ondo (N146.47) and Ebonyi (N146.43), while those with the lowest average price were Abuja (N143.00), Kogi (N143.00) and Katsina (N142.50).
The NBS data showed that the average price per litre paid by consumers for kerosene fell by 0.13 per cent month-on-month but increased by 14.14 per cent year-on-year to N316.03 in July from N316.43 in June.
“States with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Abia (N388.33), Enugu (N378.72), and Anambra (N357.14). States with the lowest average price per litre of kerosene were Benue (N250.00), Kwara (N250.00) and Nasarawa (N250.00),” the NBS added.
Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer, relies heavily on importation for its fuel needs as state-owned refineries have remained in a state of disrepair for many years.
