Gov Mbah Makes Minor Cabinet Shake Up
Peter Mbah, Enugu State Governor

In a decisive move signaling his administration’s commitment to accelerated development, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State recently reshuffled his cabinet, reassigning key commissioners to better align with his strategic governance objectives.

The shake up which affected multiple ministries underscores the governor’s responsiveness to performance metrics and his determination to deliver on his ambitious agenda for the state.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Mba has made no secret of his vision to transform Enugu into a premier destination and a hub for sustainable development.

Speaking at the swearing- in ceremony of the appointees, the Governor reminded them that performance indicators are key to his administration.
“The humongous goals that we have outlined, your ministries will play critical roles in accomplishing them.
“We set targets, we also set goals, and we have key performance indicators, hence, we have to measure and we have to constantly take analysis of where you are in respect to the set goals, and what your results are. These performance indicators are key to us, and we will measure you based on these outcome and results”, he said.

Sources within the Lion Building Enugu revealed to MMS Plus that the rearrangement was not merely a routine exercise, but a deliberate strategy to reinvigorate underperforming sectors and reposition competent hands where their expertise is most needed.

Among the notable changes was the redeployment of the former commissioner for works, Engr. Gerald Otiji to Ministry of Housing while Dr. Malachy Agbo was moved from the Ministry of Human Capital Development to Ministry of Information, indicating that the Governor is putting square pegs in square holes.

Other appointees include: Dr. Godwin Anigbo, Head of Service; Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Prof. Benedet Ekwutosi Okoli, Commissioner for Human Capital Development; Enyinna Franklin Ogbonna, Commissioner for Energy and Human Resources; and Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, Commissioner for Trade to Investment, and Industry.

The realignment also saw the appointment of Ben Colin Ndu Jnr. as Commissioner for Water Resources, while Dr. Felix Nnamani was reassigned from the Ministry of Water Resources to Ministry of Labour. Two commissioners were dropped at the end of the reorganisation exercise.

Political analysts posit that the cabinet reshuffle was a pragmatic step to enhance efficiency.
“Governor Mbah has demonstrated that he values efficiency, resourcefulness, and accountability, for his resolve to put a square peg in a square hole.Putting the reassigning officials based on their strengths show that the state’s evolving needs will be achieved “, said Hon.Paul Okoro, PDP Chairman, Igbo-Etiti Local Government.

Hon. Okoro commended the Governor for prioritizing competence over political considerations particularly in reassigning roles with direct impact on service delivering.

The reorganisation sent a clear message; Mbah’s administration is not content with business as usual. With the reassigned priorities and reinvigorated leadership across ministries, the government is poised to tackle pressing challenges in the state with a renewed vigor.

As the new appointees settle into their roles, all eyes will be on the outcomes. Will this strategic recalibration fast-track Enugu’s development? Only time will tell.
