Concerned stakeholders have urged the federal government of Nigeria to work towards ensuring that the nation improves and climbs the world bank ranking on ease of doing business.

The president of National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA); Mr Lucky Amiwero said this in a letter to the Presidency.

Amiwero lamented that Nigeria currently ranks at category of 169 from 189 countries in trading across border.

The ranking categorizes Nigeria as non consistent, transparent and unpredictable nation in cross border trade, which has mostly   affected the rejection and competiveness of our products on Export and Import from international community.

Amiwero also stated that export plays an important role, which increase productivity, provides employment, improves trade balance and expands the growth of a nation’s economy.

“At this time of economic recession, the diversification of the Economy from Oil to Non-Oil Export is imperative, which must be the focus of the Federal government for the development of non Oil Export process that is expected to play significant role in revamping the ailing economy” he said.

The letter also highlighted theobstacles that affects export process from Nigerian ports to include; lengthy and cumbersome documentation process on export, multiplicity of regulatory/security agencies, high and duplicated Terminal/ shipping company charges and process and lack of export infrastructures.
