Customs-seized vehicle kills Ogun student, injures others
The driver of a suspected smuggled vehicle seized by the Nigeria Customs Service in Ogun State on Monday reportedly crushed a student to death and injured two others in Ihunbo, Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the Customs officer driving the vehicle suddenly lost control and reportedly hit the students.
The victims were said to be students of Ojumo Community High School who were walking by the roadside near Ihunbo market.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that two other students hit by the vehicle had been hospitalised.
Our correspondent learnt that the action prompted Irate youths in the community to set the vehicle ablaze while the Customs officers took to their heels.
It was also learnt that the vehicle was seized from some suspected smugglers along Idi-Iroko road in the Local Government area of the state.
Spokesman for the police in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
Oyeyemi said the violence was averted following the deployment of police and soldiers in the area.
Attempts to get reaction from the state Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdulahi Maiwada, were unsuccessful.
