Customs, NDLEA Deepen Anti-Drug Collaboration In The South East
The Nigeria Customs Service has strengthened its inter-agency cooperation in the South East as the Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Area Command hosted the Enugu State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Commander of Narcotics Owoputi Adekunle, during a courtesy visit on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs I Chikezie Nwankwo, the visit took place at the Command headquarters in Enugu and formed part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational synergy and intensify the fight against illicit drugs in the region.
Welcoming the NDLEA delegation, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Favour Bodunde, praised the agency for its strong commitment to safeguarding the nation and promoting a drug-free society. She applauded the NDLEA’s public sensitisation programmes and enforcement activities, emphasising that effective cooperation among security and regulatory bodies is essential for achieving national safety objectives.
Comptroller Bodunde also highlighted the policy direction of the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, which focuses on collaboration, innovation and consolidation. She reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to work closely with sister agencies and stressed that the Service continues to upgrade the competence of its officers to ensure they are professionally prepared to confront drug trafficking and substance abuse.
“The Command is committed to the Comptroller General’s vision of collaboration, innovation and consolidation. We will continue to work closely with sister agencies while strengthening the skills of our officers to tackle drug trafficking and substance abuse in all its forms,” the CAC said.
In his response, the NDLEA State Commander, Owoputi Adekunle, expressed appreciation for the warm reception, commending the CAC for her impactful leadership since assuming office. He stressed the urgent need to suppress illicit drug activities, noting that substance abuse continues to threaten the nation’s productive population.
He acknowledged the existing partnership between both agencies and expressed confidence that the collaboration would deepen even further during his tenure, which began in October 2025.
