Customs CG, Adeniyi Gets Tenure Extension By Six Months

In what seems like an answer to earlier calls by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders(NAGAFF)and other maritime industry stakeholders for tenure extension of the Comptroller General of Customs(CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu on Friday approved the extension of his tenure by six months.
Stakeholders had appealed to the President to extend the CGC’s tenure to enable him consolidate the customs reforms, arguing further that his exit in August could affect the nation’s Council Chairmanship of the World Customs Organization(WCO)which presides over.
Adeniyi whose tenure was due to expire in August this year, will now remain in office till February, 2027.
The tenure extension was contained in a press statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The statement explained that President Tinubu approved the extension to enable Adeniyi complete key reforms started in the Customs Service since assuming office in 2023.
The statement also added that the extension will “enable him to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window and ensure an orderly succession in the service.”
