Chamber Of Shipping Appoints Chimezie-Azubuike DG

The Governing Council of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) has announced the approval of the appointment of Mrs. Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike as its substantive Director General effective November 11, 2022.

The NCS was formed in 2003 with the primary objective of ensuring that the domestic shipping industry participates fully in all commercial services in the Nigerian coastal waters and beyond.

Before her appointment, Mrs Chimezie-Azubuike was the Director of Operations and Administration of the Chamber; a position she occupied since October 2020 upon the successful completion of the restructuring exercise carried out by the operational committee of the Chamber as mandated by the Governing Council.

With a rich background in management of Business Management Organizations(BMOs)and Non-Profits, Azubuike had, prior to her re-joining the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping in year 2020; served at various times as Director of Membership and Programmes and later rose to the position of Acting Director General at the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC); a foremost Bilateral Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria whose primary mission is to promote trade relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

In the last two years of her sojourn with the Chamber of Shipping, Mrs. Azubuike has positively projected the Chamber at both Local and International maritime stages through increased, very impactful and industry related advocacy programmes and collaborative initiatives with International Maritime Organisation (IMO), International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) World Maritime University (WMU), WISTA International just to mention a few.

As part of her notable achievements in the last two years, Azubuike in August 2021 successfully coordinated and brought to fruition the long-awaited dream of the Chamber of becoming a full member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS); making it the first African Member State to join the Board of the global maritime body.

In her acceptance speech, the new Director General expressed her appreciation to the Board, Management and members of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping for entrusting her with a higher responsibility and committed to uphold the confidence reposed on her as she works assiduously to take the Chamber to the next positive level in line with global best practices.

A product of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), where she bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Transport Management Technology (Maritime), Azubuike also holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with speciality in Human Resources Management from the Lagos State University (LASU), and certifications in some personal developments courses.

She has attended many capacity-building programmes both within and outside Nigeria and is a professional member of Women International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA) and other related professional bodies in the Maritime/Shipping Industry. She is happily married with children, and is Certified Emotional Intelligence Specialist.
