Bears: Nigeria Missing At IMO Elections
Nigeria was missing in action during last week’s election into the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, yet she continues to pride herself as the hub of maritime in Africa. Five African countries- Egypt, South Africa, Kenya and even Liberia were recognized and elected into the Category C of IMO Council for the 2016-2017 biennium, but Nigeria didn’t participate. How long will we continue to boast as giants in the African maritime industry when we are not represented at the world most important maritime organization. The Council is the executive organ of IMO and is responsible, under the Assembly, for supervising the work of the Organization. Is Nigeria too big to be in the IMO Council?
