BEARS: African Time

BEARS: african TimeIs there is really an African time? The press briefing organized by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) last week kicked-off by 11am, one hour after the scheduled time. The Moderator of the event, Dr. Kayode Farinto did apologize before he undid his apologies by asking the audience to note that it was ‘African Time’.

What exactly is African time?

According to Wikipedia, African time is the perceived cultural tendency, in parts of Africa and the Caribbean toward a more relaxed attitude to time. This is sometimes used in a pejorative sense, about tardiness in appointments, meetings and events.

In summary, African time connotes tardiness and tardiness connotes irresponsibility. It’s really not something to be proud of. Let’s stop it!
