AU Celebrates African Shipping Day

TodayAU Celebrates African Shipping Day, African Union (AU) celebrates the African Day of seas and oceans at the AU head quarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

All maritime organizations and related specialized institutions across Africa are expected to participate at the event.

AU’s Legal counsel and Director, Prof. Vincent Nmehielle said that the event is in conformity with the AU’s decision on the implementation of Africa’s Integrated Maritime (AIM) strategy.

The 2050 AIM Strategy provides a broad framework for the protection and sustainable exploitation of the African maritime domain for wealth creation.

AIM Strategy is the product of inputs from African experts that includes Think Tanks, NGOs and Academia, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms (RMs), AU Member States, specialized institutions and other important stakeholders.

The celebration would also feature papers and panels of discussions on the theme: “Maritime Governance for Sustainable Development”.
