Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has formally withdrawn its membership from the Maritime Advocacy and Action Group (MAAG).

MAAG which comprised the freight forwarding and customs brokers association as well as the truckers association in the maritime sector has recently lost some of its members due to what is described as taking unilateral decisions.

In an extended meeting which included the National Executive Committee (NECOM) members, the Board of Trustee members, the chapter executives, resolved to back out from the group for lack of direction and focus.

Recently, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) had reneged its membership on the ground that the leadership of the group took decisions without consulting the members

Among other issues resolved at the meeting include supporting the Association Electoral Commission (ASECO) in the forth coming Eastern Chapters election.

The association however, said it aligned with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council to reduce the cost of doing business in Nigeria ports through the enforcement of internationally accepted best practices on terminal and shipping companies’ charges thereby making the port friendlier to users.
