The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has declined COVID-19 donation of N100,000 from National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).

ANLCA turned down the support, even as it directed NAGAFF to inject the fund into the nation’s port environment and assisting NAGAFF members.

ANLCA made this position known today in a press statement signed by its President, Hon. Tony Iju Nwabunike, stressing that NAGAFF should be more discreet which such donations.

The statement said, “While appreciating the magnanimity of NAGAFF to make these donations at this critical time, we ask that the amount to ANLCA be ploughed back into NAGAFF in helping to achieve a befitting operating environment for it and its operatives”

“Without sounding immodest, we wish to state that ANLCA is at the fore of supporting the less-privileged at our individual and corporate levels without making a show of it as such could puncture the dignity and self-esteem of the receivers”

The Association stated that as a group, as companies and individual members have stepped up in giving persons in and outside the maritime industry without making a media show or hype of it.

While ANLCA pledged to continue giving towards humanity, Nwabunike said, “We do this with the consciousness that our creator who sees our works of charity, done in secret, will reward us in open on the earth and thereafter.”

ANLCA admonished NAGAFF to adopt the strategy by most donor organizations and associations by approaching the government and its agencies with their donations.

“Whereas you did announce in your statement that the listed beneficiaries of your donation should contact the ‘undersigned’, don’t expect the federal and state government to contact you because they are engrossed in managing the effect of the pandemic and containing its spread”, ANLCA said.
