The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) has expressed his determination to ensure that the Customs Staff College remains a World class training institution.

According to a release signed by the Customs Public Relations Officer (PRO), Wale Adeniyi, the visit to the College, located in the nation’s capital city, Abuja, is part of the CG’s familiarization with the Service structures.

Speaking after his visit to the College to assess facility on ground, the CG said he was impressed by what he found, describing it as captivating, well-kept and commendable.

He noted with optimism that the College environment, which he described as “captivating, well- kept and commendable”, is capable of shunning out World class, skilled Customs Professionals for the nation.

Ali however expressed concerns about adequate maintenance of the college structures, as maintenance remains the best way of ensuring longevity of infrastructures.

“I am impressed and hope to keep the standard well above average, it is one thing for us to build and another for us to maintain. The standard of training must not fall. The maintenance must not fall. Our staff college must be first- class at any given time” he declared.

The highlight of the visit was the inspection of the Customs museum by the Comptroller-General, where items of historical value documenting Customs history since its inception, were kept. The CG also inspected places like the college main auditorium, lecture Halls, the e-library, residences for Directing Staff and College participants, the medical and sports facilities.

Earlier on in related development, the Nigerian Customs has warned the general public, especially youths seeking employment into the Service, to be wary of fraudulent employment notices attributed to the Customs as presently, the service is not recruiting personnel.

This is coming on the heels of several online sites and advert claiming to sell customs recruitment scratch cards. According to the Customs, it was disheartening to note that despite several warnings, arrests and prosecutions, internet fraudsters are still using this online platform to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NCS wishes to inform the general public that it is not undergoing any recruitment exercise,” the statement read.
