Jetty Operators Urged To Support Government Eliminate Apapa Gridlock
The General Manager Western Ports, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Chief M.K Ajayi has called on Jetty operators in the Tin Can Island axis to fully support the federal government in its efforts towards to curb the gruesome Apapa gridlocks.
Chief Ajayi appealed to the jetty operators to ensure that they create the right environment within their operational areas to ease traffic along the Oshodi/ Apapa expressway to compliment the efforts of the federal government towards ensuring smooth traffic flow along the Oshodi/ Apapa road.
He made this plea on behalf of the management of NPA while addressing some Jetty operators during a recent familiarization tour of the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal [KLT] last week. According to Ajayi, the jetty operators would be at an advantage to have a permanent solution to the problem, considering how it affects their operations.
Chief Ajayi’s familiarization tour saw him thoroughly inspect the facilities especially the safety standards at the KLT, Phase 1, MRS, Ibru Atlantic Shrimpers Ltd, Royal Salt and LADOL Jetties as well as the Abuja trailers park.
At the MRS, Chief Ajayi enjoined the management to assist in clearing the trucks along the inner route leading to the Tin Can Port main gate and he also admonished the management consider repairing some portions of the road leading to the entrance of the Jetty.
Responding to Chief Ajayi, Dr Jibril Otunba of the MRS who conducted the General Manager round the facility assured that the MRS Company would support government in the bid to find a lasting solution to the traffic congestion within their end.
At the Ibru Jetty, the General Manager appealed to the operators of the Jetty to support government efforts at solving the traffic problem along the Apapa corridor and expressed concern on how the situation affected operations in the Jetty.
In his response, the Ibru Vice Chairman, Chief Oscar Ibru assured that the company was always willing to support whatever measures the federal government initiates to find a lasting solution to the Apapa traffic problem.
