  • EFCC Keeps Search Report Secret

As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intensifies pursuit on the immediate past Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Inde Dikko over corrupt allegations, the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk is believed to have met President Buhari to appeal on behalf of Dikko.

However, the efforts of Emir Umar were futile as the President declined giving the embattled former CGC Dikko reprieve by restricting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from hitting hard on him.

Our presidential source revealed that Buhari actually walked out on the Daura Emir to show his disappointment at the Emir’s request within the presidential residence.

It is noteworthy to highlight that President Buhari, Dikko Abdullahi and Emir Umar Faruk all come from the Daura community in Katsina state and in June last the year the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk appointed President Muhammadu Buhari as Bayajidda the Second of the Daura Emirate.

Only recently, some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and policemen raided the Abuja residence of the former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Inde Dikko.

The raid which occurred while Dikko and his wife were away, also led the EFCC to unearth some money in foreign currency as well as some incriminating documents which are connected to the ongoing probe of the tenure of Dikko as Comptroller General of Customs.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission may have decided to keep mum on the findings during the latest search but inside sources reveal that monies were recouped in dollars as well as some other items. The EFCC continues to shy away and refuse to reveal the full outcome of the raid on Dikko’s residence.

It is believed that the raid and its possible revelations are what led the Emir of Daura to move quickly in his failed attempt to intercede for Dikko. All efforts by MMS Plus to speak to the EFCC on these new developments were futile.

Ironically, Dikko had enjoyed a very close relationship with the EFCC under the immediate past Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde. As a close friend with Lamorde, Dikko was seen to be romancing with the commission only few months ago when both held sway in their paramilitary agencies.

Meanwhile, the founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Dr. Boniface Aniebonam has called on the associations and individuals who benefitted from Dikko’s generosity to rally round and support him rather than jettison him at such trying time.

He stressed that Dikko had been very generous to several institutions and empowered several people in the Customs Service, but his charity seems to have been forgotten as his benefactors have quickly gone into hiding.
