Rector of the Academy, Commodore Duja Effedua(Rtd.), said that the decision to honour Mrs Margaret Orakwusi by naming the very- important Hall after her, was in appreciation of her contributions in the maritime industry over time.
Mrs. Orakwusi thanked the Rector for the honour done her. She appreciated the collections on display as she took a walk around the hall.
Earlier in her goodwill message to the graduating cadets, Orakwusi encouraged them, particularly the female cadets, to be bold and not feel intimidated
“You have just started, don’t be afraid. Success has no gender, so just the way the men succeed, so you should; don’t feel intimidated. I promote women who are qualified and so once you are qualified to do a job, there should be no discrimination.
“The Rector has given you that confidence, so please use it well. When you leave the gates of this institution, always look back and find out what you can still do to help the institution. Again, when you are out there, know that you are an ambassador of a great institution,” Orakwusi said.
She thanked the Rector for staying purposeful and committed to developing the Academy for manpower resource to meet industry needs.
