BEARS: Lagos Transport Wahala
To see passengers jettison buses less than halfway into the journey has become the norm in Lagos as a result of the failed transportation system. These commuters let go of the fares they had paid after waiting hours on one spot in gruesome traffic-jam but to see school buses trapped in a spot for hours is definitely a sorry sight. Students now spend two or more hours of school time in Lagos traffic, yet they don’t have the luxury or privilege to jettison the school-bus and find other avenues to get to school. This problem is a fallout of the Lagos port crisis. Ports without provision for empty container holding bays and no provisions for truck parks.
This photograph was taken at Agric bus stop along Lagos Badagry expressway at 9:15am (one hour past school resumption time) and none of the school buses reportedly reached the respective schools before 11:30am. What a shame! Who deserves the blame most? Is it the Lagos State Government? Or the Ministry of Transportation, how about Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)? Should we blame the truck drivers, truck owners, commuters, or the school kids?
