The New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP) has promised to develop the water transport system in Lagos as an alternative to road transportation in the state as well as decongesting the traffic gridlocks that bedevil the roads in the state by giving the sector the attention it deserves.

This was made known by the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Mr. Olatunde Olusesan when addressing journalists after the flag off of the Lagos governorship campaign in Lagos.

The NNPP gubernatorial candidate who was represented at the occasion by his running mate, Prince Adeleke Olofin said the administration of Olusesan would give every necessary attention to the sector more than what it presently experienced.

He said that the cargoes that are passing through the roads would be diverted to pass through the sea by providing boats that can perform the task so that there will be reprieve for the roads as well as creating employment for the youth who are trained in the art but are jobless.

He said, “As you all know that Lagos is a state of aquatic splendour and the concentration on our roads is too much, and water links all parts of Lagos state from Lagos Island to Epe to Badagry and Ikorodu. If there is a marine service that is adequate, you can carry your cargoes on waters as it is done in advanced countries.

Our present government is not concentrating on our maritime even the Federal Government is not doing enough in the sector. We shall improve on the quality of canoes on the water as well as the necessary safety precautions to make our waters viable business venture,” he added

Speaking earlier, National Chairman of the party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam charged the contestants to adopt a different strategy in their campaigns even as he asked them to inaugurate social media committee which he said was the platform through which elections could be won in this age.

According to him, the manifesto of the party should be the guiding light for the campaigns of the candidates, adding that elections should not constitute hooliganism rather they should fathom how to improve on the living standard of the citizenry.

Aniebonam said that the party fielded candidates in all the federal elective positions in 23 states except the presidency even as he said that the party had been growing stronger since its formation in 1998.

Other candidates for the positions of senate and House of Representatives were also presented with flags at the event which witnessed the presence of the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barr. Fred Akokhia as well as members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
