“I will like to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for giving us the privilege to be members of the board of directors of the Council.

Earlier in his remarks, Hassan Bello welcomed the nine board members of the Council, noting that the appointment of the board members was timely because the Council was going through several challenges.
The Executive Secretary said the Council is better equipped to achieve more and make significant progress with the emergence of the board, which ought to have been appointed several years ago.
Hassan Bello equally expressed pleasure that the members of the board were notable individuals who are knowledgeable and experienced in shipping matters, even as he praised the Board Chairman for his distinguished humility.
“The Council was created in 1978. We have had up to eight boards; and this is the ninth board. We have had many cordial relationship between the boards and the management and we hope this will continue.
“Mr. Chairman, this relationship is based on mission, synergy, achieving target, openness and transparency in all ramifications because we found the board as the partner to move this Council forward. We have a well-trained staff on policy formulation and implementation. We are going to start work with the board immediately as the Chairman has pointed out”, Bello said.
He noted that there was a dire need for the management to collaborate with the board to enable the Council achieve its mandate of making the Nigerian ports the hub in West and Central African region.
Bello also said that there were many opportunities in the transportation industry, noting that the industry could drive the economy of the country if the opportunities were fully maximized.
