COFFHA Seeks Partners In Poverty Alleviation Projects
The Committee of Friends for Humanity (COFFHA) has appealed to individuals and corporate organizations to partner with it in its effort to build an Empowerment Centre for widows and other numerous good gestures for the less privileged individuals in the society.
COFFHA President, Chief Mrs. Carolyn Akum Ufere who spoke during the 25th anniversary celebration of the association in Lagos said the Empowerment Centre “will serve as a multipurpose facility with the intent of giving them a sense of wellbeing, endowing them with skills to gain as much self sufficiency and reliance as possible and hopefully alleviate the burden of poverty and suffering that had inadvertently been placed on them”.
According to her, COFFHA has carved a niche in charitable and philanthropic sphere in Nigeria even as it has executed several laudable projects throughout the years.
She listed some of the projects to include; the furnishing of a 16 bed female ward at the Apapa Health Centre, donation of kidney dialysis Machine to Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos, renovation of Children’s ward B at the Ikeja General Hospital in Lagos, Widow Empowerment project executed in Anambra State and the quarterly donation of food items and provisions to various orphanages in Lagos state among others.
She said, “It is pertinent to note that COFFHA empowers 100 Women annually through the ‘widow empowerment project by providing funds to enable them start small scale businesses. While you celebrate with us today, we implore you to reflect on the numerous needs of suffering humanity and how we can all put our resources together to make a difference.
“We encourage you to partner with us in kind and cash as we put smiles on their faces. We are must grateful to those who have supported us in the past and are still standing by us today. We welcome your cash donations or building materials such as bags of cement, blocks etc for the completion of this Empowerment Centre” she added.
