Safety: A Panacea To Efficient Port Services

The Chairman, Board of Directors of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Emmanuel Adesoye has identified adherence to occupational, health and safety as a panacea to efficient port services in line with international best practices.

Emmanuel Adesoye made this identification while on a continuation of his familiarisation tour of port facilities with other members of the board and top management of the organization to the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal.

Adesoye emphasised during the tour that the NPA management was desirous of   ensuring that the mission of the organisation which is to deliver efficient port services in a safe secure and customer friendly environment at all times to safeguard life’s and property within the port community and beyond.

According to him, “this would attract foreign investors and further lead to generation of revenue.

He expressed optimism that management would ensure that Ikorodu Lighter Terminal is put to more effective utilisation in view of the vast investment opportunities therein. The NPA Chairman described the Terminal as a “gold mine which we must find a way to put into good use”.

Mr. Adesoye also said the NPA management plans encouraging export trade through the terminal especially agricultural produce with a view to making the location a notable maritime hub in the sub region whist enhancing industrialisation which would in turn also yield more dividends at this critical time facing the nation. It would also create employment for our people he added.

The Board Chairman charged on all stakeholders in the Maritime Sub-sector to form a common goal towards making the port industry choice destination.

This he said would be achieved through harmonization of strategies in tandem with government desires. Constance Harry Mashal, Umar Shu’ aibu (NPA Board Members) accompanied the Chairman NPA Board during the facility tour.
