Usoro, New CILT President Promises All-Inclusive Leadership
The newly elected President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, Barr. Mfon Usoro has vowed to operate a transparent leadership structure and partner with all members in a bid to take the Institute to new heights.
Usoro made this pledge in her acceptance speech after the election which took place on Saturday in Abuja.
The former Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Usoro got 154 vote to defeat two other males contestants; Chief Igna Owums who got 18 votes and Barr. Dr. Alban Igwe who got 12 votes.
Announcing the results of the election which was conducted both physically and virtually, the Chairperson of the CILT 2021 National Elections, Mrs. Moji Jimoh expressed happiness over the smooth electioneering process, and the professional conduct of members during the elections.
Other officers elected were; Dr. Aminu Yusuf, former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria as the Deputy National President; Mrs. Margret Ogbonnah as the Vice President West; Billy D. Filibus as Vice President North; Adeyinwo Olanisesede got Rail mode; Usman Shuaibu as Martime mode.
Aviation mode was obtained Queen N. Ajayi; Sani M. Ibrahim as Road mode; Logistics Modes was gotten by Bolaji O. Olowoye; Olumode Ibrahim for Pipeline mode and Mrs. Juliana O. Saka female representative of the Council.
The founder of Women in Logistics and Transport (WILAT)globally, Hajia Aisha Ali-Ibrahim retained her position as Permanent Council Member of CILT -Nig. while Dr Usman Gidado the International Vice President Nigeria is also a Council Member, other Council members include the branch Chairmen and President of CILT Next generation.
Usoro has taken over from Alh. Abubakar Jibril who served as President of the Institute for two tenures.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executives, Usoro said, “I thank everyone who has showed up for this election. I thank those who voted for me, as well as those who didn’t. In the spirit of being a unifying factor which was the central message of my campaign, I have emerged as President for everyone in CILT Nigeria. My presidency is for everyone. I have brought everyone into the fold, including those who didn’t know me and didn’t vote for me. Thank you all very much.”
“As distinguished and capable Council members we still can’t get to the promise land alone. We need everyone to be onboard so that we can achieve the desired goals for CILT Nigeria We are stronger together. This a new era and a new dawn for CILT. We will make you proud”
Despite the anticipated crisis, the election was attended by professional members and it was conducted peacefully in a free and fair manner.
Meanwhile, Alban Igwe had stepped down earlier and told his supporters want to vote for Mfon Usoro.
According to Igwe, he voted for Usoro even as he noted that some of his supporters mayn’t have been aware that he had withdrawn.
His name was called alongside other candidates despite the fact that he had withdrawn and some voters went ahead to vote for him.
