Shippers’ Council, NJI Holds International Seminar For Judges
The 16th edition of the International Maritime Seminar for Judges, organised by the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in Collaboration with the International Maritime Institute (IMI), under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Transport takes place on the 5th -7th of July,2022 ,at the Sheraton Hotels Abuja.
In a release signed by Rakiya Dhahikru Yahgboyaju Head ,Public Relations ,the three days event which will witness the convergence of legal minds across the globe will be chaired by His Lordship,Hon.Justicr Bode Rhodes-Vivor , CFR.retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The event which is widely regarded as the prime event in the maritime calendar in Nigeria is a deliberate effort to ensure that judicial officers, Maritime practitioners as well as legal advisers and in- house counsel in the employe of public and private secrors of the economy are abreast of the contemporary issues in the special area of the law that has to do with adjudication on maritime matters.
The event will have the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Honourable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed GCON,as the Special Guest of Honour while Honourable Minister of Transport Senator Gemisola Saraki will be the chief host.
The 16 th edition of the event which would have taken place in 2020 but was put off owing to the lockdown occasioned by covid- 19 pandemic.
The occasion which promises to be very educative and informative will witness an array of eminent jurists, erudite scholars and seasoned maritime/ legal experts from Kenya and Australia,who will deliver papers aimed at addressing several burning issues bedeviiing the maritime industry.Topics to be discussed at the three day event will cover almost every critical areas of the maritime industry.
Participants at the seminar include Justices of supreme court,court of appeal,and judges of federal and State high courts,legal advisers,in- house counsel,legal and maritime practitioners as well as industry stakeholders.
Other distinguished dignitaries expected at the ocassion include the chief justice of Gambia, Ghana,Kenya ,Liberia,Seirra Leone and South Africa along with some justices/judges of these countries’ judiciaries respectively.
