Shippers’ Council, International Maritime Hold Conference On Port Challenges

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) in conjunction with International Maritime Exhibition and Conference Limited is organizing a one-day conference to address the challenges in the port industry in recent times.

According to Barr. (Mrs.) Margaret Orakwuesi, who is behind International Maritime Exhibition and Conference Limited, the conference, will do a review of the port concession agreement, role of the economic regulator, effect of persistent gridlock on port access roads on the concession exercise.

Billed to take place on July 30th, 2015 at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, some of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include, Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Special Guest of Honor; The Gov. of Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as Chairman of the occasion; Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Barr. Hassan Bello as the Host; President, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Chief Adebayo Sarumi as the Moderator, while the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport, Mallam Mohammed Bashir will deliver the keynote address.

Among the speakers are: Barrister Osuala Nwagbara, Maritime and Commercial Law Partners, billd to talk on: Review of the Concession Agreement with focus on: The Rights and Obligations of the Lessor and Lessee; Barr. Hassan Bello, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, billd to talk on: Role of the Economic Regulator, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), will talk on: Effect of persistent gridlock on Port access roads as a major factor hindering success of the concession exercise; Otunba Kunle Folarin, Chairman, Nigerian Ports Consultative Council, to speak on: Has liberalization of Port activities delivered the anticipated economic growth, development and modernization of the Port?

Other guests expected are: Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado-Bayero, Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority; Princess Vicky Haastrup, Chairman, Sea Port Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria; Haruna Baba Jauro, Ag Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA);  Barr. Danladi Ibrahim, Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
