PTML begins plans to transfer RoRo cargoes to Ikorodu terminal

PTML begins plans to transfer RoRo cargoes to Ikorodu terminalThe Ports & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) has commenced moves to transfer all Roll in Roll Out (RoRo) cargoes to Ikorodu Lighter Terminal.

The PTML terminal in Lagos Port complex has therefore urged the importers urgently clear their goods from the terminal ahead of the transfer to government terminal, at a special reduced tariff.

The firm, in a notice obtained by The Guardian, enjoined the importers of RoRo cargoes discharged on or before June 30, 2018, to immediately take advantage of the new tariff and clear their consignments.

The tariff classified as: cars, N75,000; vans, N100,000; trucks/trailer/bus, N150,000; and plants N300,000 accordingly.

It reads: “PTML has finalised its plans to transfer all overtime RoRo cargoes (discharged on or before June 30, 2018) to customs Ikorodu facility.

“We however wish to grant one last opportunity to importers to secure delivery of their shipments directly from terminal at a heavily discounted per unit tariff.

“This special tariff, which is effective immediately is for a short period of time. Importers are expected to secure Customs clearance and exit the unit latest July 15,2019 All the remaining cargoes would be transferred to Ikorodu immediately thereafter,” it stated.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled plans to move all overtime cargoes to the Ikorodu terminal, a move aimed at decongesting Lagos ports.

Sources said affected overtime cargoes have been identified by the various customs commands in readiness for the movement.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Customs Zone ‘A’, Kaycee Ekekezie had last week given the indication of the movement of the overtime containers to Ikorodu Lighter Terminal as part of the measures to create a conducive business environment at the Lagos ports.

With an area of over 350,000 sqm and an annual traffic throughput of over 100,000 containers, 150,000 vehicles and 200,000 tons of general cargo, PTML Terminal is adjudged the largest RoRo Terminal in West Africa.

It has a dedicated Customs command and shipping agent conveniently located within terminal premises and connected electronically to the delivery system, thus making the releasing and delivering process of the cargo easy and fast.
