Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has received his Certificate of Return, urging former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole; gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu and other members of the APC to join hands with his administration to develop the state.
Obaseki, who spoke while receiving the certificate of return as governor-elect for the state at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin City, yesterday, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for ensuring that the governorship election was free, fair and credible.
Meanwhile, the President of Court of Appeal of Nigeria, Justice M. B. Dongban Mensem, yesterday announced the establishment of the election petition tribunal secretariat with a panel to handle petitions that may arise from the governorship election conducted in Edo State.
Chairman, Edo State Chapter of South-East and South-South Professionals of Nigeria (SESSPN), Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, yesterday, hailed Captain Hosa Wells Okunbo for his sportsmanship in his congratulatory message to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on his victory and re-election.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council for Edo State and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described the outcome of Edo governorship election as a triumph of democracy.
Wike stated this when members of the Wike Solidarity Movement (WSM) visited him at the Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.Similarly, the immediate past PDP chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, said that the election of Obaseki would change the political and socio-economic narratives of Edo State, having joined the league of visionary leaders to provide quality leadership for their people.
Also, while the President-General of Edo Cultural Association, Adamawa State Chapter, Chief Ilgieuno Bawalkson, has said that the outcome of the election in Edo State was a signal to all political parties that only credible candidates would win elections come 2023 general polls, a former presidential candidate of National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, in a statement, lauded the courage and determination of Obaseki on his victory in the governorship contest.
Bawalkson, who spoke with journalists yesterday in Yola, said the magic PDP used was to present a credible candidate who the people of Edo State trusted as a result of his transparency in running the state and his people-oriented programmes.
The Ekiti State PDP and former governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni, yesterday, congratulated Obaseki on his victory at the poll. The state’s Chairman of the party, Mr. Bisi Kolawole, in a letter signed and addressed to Obaseki, lauded the PDP structure in Edo State and praised the determination and collective efforts of the people of the state for defending their votes.
Oni said the resolute actions displayed by Edo electorate against those flaunting and relying on federal might were eye opener that the will of the people could not be subdued in any electoral contest.
