Lagos NSCDC pledges to stamp out oil theft, intercepts 3,896 litres of PMS in Badagry

• Mobilises 2,000 personnel for election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has intercepted 3,896 litres of stolen petroleum products PMS during patrol of the creeks of  Badagry.

The State Commandant,  Commandant of Corps (CC), Usman Ishaq Alfadarai, who disclosed this during the display of the seized products to newsmen at Alausa  headquarters of the Command in Ikeja, said the products were  recovered from some unscrupulous elements at the Badagry Divisional axis of the state.

According to him, during routine patrol, intelligence gathering and monitoring of critical national assets and infrastructure, the Corps’ operatives discovered petroleum products suspected to be stolen by economic saboteurs and kept in a bush path at Epeme village in Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Badagry, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at about 01:35hrs.

He said: “while carrying out evacuation of the aforementioned products above, on the following day, Sunday, February 19, 2023, the Corps’ operatives recovered about 23 sacks of about 100 litres each and 57 yellow kegs of about 28 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit ( PMS ) also known as petrol at the scene.

“The total quantity of products recovered at the Epeme village totalled about 3,896 litres of PMS.” Alfadarai, said the Command is on the trail of the suspects, who are bent on sabotaging the economy of Nigeria, to apprehend them, and  bring them to justice.

He urged Nigerians to continue to be law abiding and to  supply the Command with useful information that will lead to the arrest of economic saboteurs that are bent on making life difficult for Lagosians.

He pledged that the Command will not rest on its oars until it apprehends anybody that is bent on smuggling petroleum products to  the neighbouring countries.

“ Our men are currently on the trail of these particular suspects, and we surely hope to arrest them in due course,’ he said. On the elections, the Commandant said about 2,000 personnel have been mobolised to carry out respective duties.

“As far as this forthcoming election is concerned, our men from all the local councils are ready, and they will soon be escorting the election materials to the various councils and eventually to the polling units.

“We have already mobilised more than 2,000 personnel of the Command that will now provide security and ensure a peaceful conduct of the election. I would like to call on all Lagosians to remain law abidind, as we are all working in synergy with other  security agencies to ensure that we have peaceful election,” he added.
