Japan International Cooperation Agency says it will hand over the 2nd phase of the “The Project for Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System” to Nigeria on Tuesday.

JICA`s Communication Officer, Mrs Salamatu Baba on Thursday said the official handover/commissioning of the project would be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the project site – Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant in Abuja.

She stated that the project was a support from JICA, under Japan’s “Cool Earth Partnership Programme.’’

She explained that the programme was aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions to mitigate the effects of climate change.

She said, “The implementing organisations for the project are the Federal Ministry of Power, Works & Housing and Federal Capital Territory Water Board, under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“This project includes the installation of 1,180 kwp (total) of rated generation capacity of the photovoltaic (PV) panel at the premises of Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant.

“It will supplement electricity supply from the grid. ’’

The 1st phase of the project with capacity of 975kwp was commissioned on Aug. 23, 2016.

The project is currently generating clean energy for the treatment plant.
