Headquarters Monitoring Team Seizes Goods Worth Over N65 Million
In its continued resolve to phase out smuggling from the Nigerian borders, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) through intelligence led anti-smuggling operations, the Headquarters Monitoring Team Idiroko Axis, last week, while acting on a tip off intercepted vehicles, poultry products, four hundred and thirteen (413) bales of used clothing and other general goods, suspected to have been smuggled through unapproved routes.
According to a press releases signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Uche Ejieseme, the team leader, Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Biri Usman had a stiff battle with the smugglers before they could seize the smuggled products.
The report stated, “The team leader Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Biri Usman, who led the operation, confirmed that his team had a stiff battle with the smugglers before they were eventually subdued. He stated that he had mounted surveillance along some of the unapproved routes and he is very optimistic that the anti-smuggling strategies being carefully articulated by his team will always yield desired results.”
He stated that his team maintains overwhelming presence at the unapproved routs even as the team leader drew attention to the elasticity of the security areas but assured that such will not stop their aggressive patrol and effective coordination of flashpoints.
He also stated that the Headquarters Monitoring Team Idiroko Axis has been in close collaboration with other Customs formations to ensure amputation and decimation of the smugglers supply chain as he assured that efforts are being made to sustain the ongoing anti-smuggling campaign.
