FG, States To Discuss Strategies To Boost IGR
The federal and state governments are to meet in Kano today to brainstorm on strategies to boost internally generated revenue in the states.
This, according to the Ministry of Finance, is part of efforts aimed at increasing revenue generation to fund the 2016 budget as well as other infrastructure projects.
A statement from the Finance ministry made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, said the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun would preside over the two-day retreat.
The statement read in part, “The Federal Ministry of Finance has organised a two-day national retreat on revenue generation in Kano in order to evolve new ideas and strategies for boosting revenue generation to finance the 2016 budget and upgrade the country’s infrastructure.
“The Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, is expected to deliver the keynote address, while the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, will declare the retreat open.
“Eight state governors, ministers, chief executives of various government revenue-generating agencies, directors of accounts and audit as well as revenue officers in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies are expected to participate in the retreat to share their experiences and articulate new strategies on boosting revenue generation and prudent application of such resources to finance the implementation of various development projects.”
Some of the areas of focus during the retreat, according to the statement, are expanding Nigeria’s revenue base and diversification off the economy, among others.
