The management of Crown Maritime Academy (CMA) has said that the Academy was poised to provide a total quality transport education for the support of the economic growth of the nation through maritime and other transport segments.

The Registrar of the academy, Mr. Musa Akinyemi made the call recently.

He said the academy had qualified academic staff and equipment at its disposal to provide manpower needs of the industry.

He noted that despite some challenges, the school recorded some successes in the year 2014 as some of its graduates were gainfully employed by some government agencies.

He therefore called on industry stakeholders to utilise the academy by sending their staff for training courses regularly, saying the academy would resume academic programme this week.

In the same vein, the Deputy Registrar of the school, Mr. T. E. Onukwu, charged governments to develop transport industry because of its enormous economic potentials in terms of huge revenue and employment opportunity.

According to her, “Government should look at the transport industry; develop it for the growth of the nation because of its huge revenue and massive employment opportunity. It can generate so much revenue for the nation.”

Speaking on the academic opportunities available at the institution, Onukwu said CMA had a lot of academic opportunities to offer Nigerians and the nation’s transport industry as it offers courses in all fields of transport.

She said the school management would employ various market strategies to drive the academy toward achieving its target goal in the year and beyond.

CMA in 2014 gained an international recognition as it was listed as a member of the Commonwealth Education Partnerships (CEP), a body of Commonwealth of Nations, based on its education excellence.

The academy had received assessment visits by various stakeholders including Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association who came to assess academic facilities of the institution recently.
