The Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Hamisu Yadudu has disclosed the plans by the authority to adopt the smart airport concept in several airports across the country before the end of 2020.
Yadudu stated this while delivering a paper on “Airport Operations and Standards of Safety in Nigeria” at the 2019 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Leadership Impact Programme and Dinner.
“To ensure that our airports are smart, contracts has been awarded for self check in, baggages drop off and automated boarding gates, which will be completed before the end of next year. The complexity of the airport requires constant communication, hazards ratification and risk mitigation methods.  We have also invested in massive capacity development through international and in house training” he said.
Smart Airport Concept  involves creating a passenger-oriented, technology-driven airport experience for passengers, airlines, and airport operation teams by taking full advantage of data science, developments in mobile technologies and innovative thinking.
He also noted that the authority is working towards improving its service delivery at the airport in order to satisfy its customers.
“As a service delivery agency, there is no better way to improve your services than listening to those that we are serving”
Yadudu also revealed that safety Management Steering Committee was established by the authority to review and provide direction for the resolution of safety critical issues pending at various airports in the country.
