Customs Re-Opens Terminals At MMIA: CAC Sacked!
Normalcy has since returned to the cargo terminal at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) as the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Abdullahi Dikko Inde has waded into the lingering crisis over trade dispute between the clearing agents and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) at the command.
The CGC at a meeting held with top executives of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), SAHCOL, NAHCOL Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and other concerned stakeholders at the Airport frowned at agents’ unruly behaviour to Controller Tajudeen Olarewaju whom he has replaced with Compt. Folorunsho Adegoke.
The CG averred that stringent security measures must be maintained to ensure that only genuine licensed agents will be allowed entry into the terminal henceforth. He warned that any agents found formenting trouble will be arrested and prosecuted.
The customs boss however re-opened the warehouses of SAHCOL and NAHCO which were earlier shut down by the Service as a result of the face-off.
The re-opening of the warehouses shows that business activities have resumed after about two weeks of no operation at the command.
Meanwhile, leaders of the associations are expected to meet with the new CAC to chart a course for business operations in the command.
