A Committee Chairman on the Governing Board of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) Mr. Timothy Awogbemi was conferred fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), last week.
Awogbemi who joined NIM as an associate in 1986, expressed satisfaction to have attained the highest honour at the Institute.
While it is a commendable accolade for Awogbemi who is an astute manager of people and resources, it is also a big development for the CRFFN board and the leadership of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) as the veteran freight forwarder has continued to display unique managerial and leadership nous worthy of commendation.
Speaking with MMS Plus shortly after his conferment, Awogbemi said; “For one to be awarded as a single fellow, you must be hardworking; you must have been contributing towards the development of the Institute and towards the development of the community. It means you have to take social responsibility very serious. So, I feel honoured, gratified and very happy”
“I joined the Institute as an associate in 1986, and in 2002 I became a full member. Today, I am a fellow of the Institute. NIM is roll call of the influential people in Nigeria, you don’t just wake up one day and become a fellow, I will work hard with other fellows to explore ways to move the country forward” he said.
Speaking on the recent Federal Government directive to restrict forex for food import, he commended the government as he opined that the development would lead to significant growth in food production in the country.
“We cannot wait until we have food sufficiency before policies are put in place, this policy will encourage the farmers and encourage more people to go into farming, and this is the only way we can be self sufficient in food production” he said.
Earlier, the President of NIM, Mr. Olukunle Iyanda admonished the new fellows to continuously practice and propagate good management to reverse the unproductive and undesirable trends in the nation.
“We must demonstrate the highest level of selflessness, probity, objectivity and accountability in our own personal and professional responsibilities such that we can restore faith of all stakeholders in the Nigerian project. This is a challenge which I hope and plead that all fellows take seriously, especially those called to serve at the vantage positions of the country’s governance” he said.
The NIM President also lamented that apart from the insurgency in the country, the increasing insecurity and fear among people to exercise their freedom of movement, corruption and other vices are the antithesis to the doctrine of professional management which are embodied in the NIM code of conduct.
