Chief Agu Retires From Nigerian Shippers Council

Staff of the Nigerian Shippers Council, family, friends and well wishers gathered on Thursday for the send forth for Chief Cajetan Chukwuemeka Agu, who recently retired from the services of the council as director of the Consumer Affairs Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Agu said he was grateful to God for seeing him through and giving him the privilege to live to see the end of his working period noting that not all that joined the organization the same day with him were privileged to still be alive.

He expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, and the management team for making the event possible.

He admonished the staff, especially the younger ones, on the ethos of hard work. “My parting advice is hard work. You might have a god father but it may not always work,” he said.

“You must differentiate yourself by adding value to yourself by acquiring knowledge in other areas apart from your area of specialization,” he further said.

Giving example of himself, Chief Agu said his acquisition of French knowledge was what made it possible for him to represent Nigeria in Yaounde, Cameron, and to be able to interpret for the Nigerian team when they went for an assignment in Benin Republic.

He also advised the staff to save for the rainy day through Cooperative Society of the Nigerian Shippers Council, saying that what he saved is what has been sustaining him since his benefits were yet to be paid.

Chief Agu was prevented with gifts by the Council, the cooperative society, and the Consumer Affairs Department.

He was also presented with a certificate of service and a retiree’s ID card.
