BULLS: Omatseye Freed!
Yea! Hearty celebrations for the embattled former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Barr. Temisan Omatseye, who was freed one year after ‘wrongly’ been found guilty on 24 counts of corruption and sentenced to five years in jail by a federal high court in May, 2016.
The Appeal court simply ruled that Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, who handed down the sentence, did not do justice to the evidence before her. How sad?
What a lame explanation for sending an innocent fellow to jail wrongly for one full year, how many Nigerians albeit less influential than Omatsheye are spending years in prison for been ‘wrongly found guilty’?
Who should pay for the damages, ridicule and wasted years by many who suffer similar fate in Nigeria?
The judges are also human one may argue, but such judgments contradicts the concept of justice which is the legal or philosophical theory by which fairness is administered.
