The General Council of the World Trade Organisation(WTO) has reappointed Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Director- General for a second term of four years, due to begin on September 1,2025. It was a concensus agreement by the General Council of WTO. The statement on Friday noted that the reappointed was in recognition of her exceptional leadership and strategic vision for the future of WTO.
The process was initiated on October 8,2024 and was overseen by Ambassador Peter Olberg of Norway, Chair of the Council. With no additional nomination submitted by November 8 deadline, Okonjo-Iweala stood as the sole candidate. This is ceiling breaking feat by a woman with a statement on gender parity excellence.
