Bear: Corrupt Era Begins At SON
The wait for a substantive Director General at the Standards Orgnization of Nigeria (SON) came to an end last week when Aboloma Osita Anthony was appointed SON DG.
While we applaud the new boss as he assumes duty, we also urge him to beware of the mammoth corruption within the agency. He has only spent one week as the Director-General but it has been long enough for stakeholders to observe that corruption has escalated at the agency.
On Friday last week, the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) reported in a letter to President Buhari that the cases of breaches and abuses of statutes as well as corruption in the administration of the Organization have multiplied.
What is responsible for this rigorous corruption?
Are the administrators as well as the rank and file in SON taken advantage of the new boss to loot and abuse their offices?
Or has a corrupt king just been crowned as SON’s DG?
