Customs Constitutes New Management Team
Four Acting Deputy Comptroller-Generals and seven Acting Assistant Comptroller-Generals have been appointed into the new management team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
The recent appointments became necessary following the retirement of some top Custom officers and members of the management within the last three months which led to the reconstitution of the Customs management team.
The Nigeria Customs Service revealed this in a press release signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Attah this week.
While re-constituting the new team, the Comptroller-General of Customs Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) also approved slight redeployment of 8 Comptrollers to re-engineer the management of the Service for efficient service delivery.
The new NCS Management members include: Alu Sule Robert, Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Tariff and Trade – Ag. DCG UMAR IYA ABUBAKAR who was formally in charge of Tariff and Trade now moves to Finance Administration and Technical Services.

Col. Hameed Ali has tasked the new members of management to bring their experiences to bear in the administration of the Service.
He said the modest achievements of the ongoing reform agenda in the areas of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation must be sustained and improved upon in the interest of the nation.
Meanwhile, the Controller in charge of the Customs Eastern Marine Command, Port Harcourt, Comptroller Usman Bello Kankara has retired statutorily on Tuesday after attaining 35 years in the service.
Comptroller Bello, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) reached the apex rank of Comptroller of Customs at the Service in 2009.
He headed several Customs Area Commands including Kano, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Sokoto among others joined the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in 1982.
A statement from the public Relations Officer, EMC, Port Harcourt, Sunday Oyinloye said during his service year, Bello served as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Apapa Port and Tincan Island Commands and got the best PRO award of the service by the Comptroller General of Customs in 1999.
As Customs Area Controller of Kano Command in 2010, he surpassed the revenue target with a wide surplus.
“This attracted the attention of the Service headquarters in Abuja who promptly awarded him the Comptroller General of Customs recommendation,” a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Sunday Oyinloye said.
Comptroller Bello was conferred with the traditional title of Kanwan Katsina (Warrior) in November 2000 by the late Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji Kabir Usman CFR.
The statement said Comptroller Bello will be missed by officers and men of the Service and other stakeholders in the maritime industry.
