Apapa Customs Breaks Own Daily Revenue Milestone By 12.5%, Rakes In N17.9bn
The Customs Area Controller(CAC) of Apapa Port Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), Compt. Babatunde Olomu has made an unprecedented daily revenue generation of N17.9 billion raked into the government’s account in just one month of assuming office.
The figure is about N2 billion higher than the existing revenue record of N16billion collected in a single day by the Command on February 23,2024. This represents an increase of 12.5 per cent. The latest daily revenue generation feat also dwarfed the N11.3 billion collected in a day by the Command on November 22, 2023.
Announcing his early achievement on Wednesday, Olomu described the feat as the beginning of several milestone revenue collection amounts to come, without undermining trade facilitation at the country’s premier port.
He also assured that his Command would keep up with its anti- smuggling exploits through intelligence and strategies to ensure that Apapa Port remains a waterloo for smugglers and drug traffickers.
Olomu, who assumed office as Area Controller of the nation’s premier port command in May 2024, said the officers and men of the command under his watch were ready to sustain and surpass the tempo.
He said, “This unprecedented revenue collection is a way of celebrating one year in office of Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, whose inspiring and motivating leadership has contributed greatly in what the command recorded thus far.
“I wish to use this avenue to urge all port users to always abide by the tenets and etiquette of lawful operations such as obeying the extant import and export guidelines, prompt and accurate payment of duty and promotion of regular engagement in the national interest.”
