Pirates Attack Boat, Kill Two, Injure Others
Unknown gunmen suspected to be sea pirates on Tuesday shot and killed two traders and injured a kid and the driver of a commercial boat.
It was gathered that the boat was conveying passengers from Bonny Local Government Area in Rivers State to Kaa in Khana LGA in the same state when they were attacked by pirates.
A source in Bonny Island said the gunmen laid ambush and tried in vain to stop the vessel.
It was learnt that the driver had increased the boat’s speed when he noticed the pirates were coming after him and his passengers.
The hoodlums, however, opened fire on the passenger boat from a distance after noticing that they could not catch up with the traders.
It was gathered that those injured during the attack were in critical conditions, even as sources said the injured driver managed to take the boat to its destination in Kaa, Khana LGA.
According to a source, “The boat has 200 horse power engine. So, the driver on sighting the gunmen sped off. The gunmen chased the boat, but could not catch up with it.
“They opened fire on the boat, killed two persons and injured the driver and a kid in the boat. The injured people are in critical conditions. The driver managed to bring the boat to Kaa.”
