There are Plans to Further Concession the Ports-SSACTAC CHAIRMAN

The chairman of Senior Staff Association of Communication, Transport, and Corporations (SSACTAC) Maritime branch, headquarters zone, Comrade Ayuba Jimoh has said that there was an ongoing plan by some people to concession more parts of the ports especially, the harbours.

Speaking exclusively to correspondents of MMS Plus Weekly, Comrade Ayuba said that the plan was already in motion but would be resisted to the fullest.

According to him, “We have to tell the world that concessioning has been done and completed in the port, there can’t be any further concessioning, it will be resisted”.

He continued “We heard that there were plans from some bourgeoisies who want to take the collective wealth of the nation away again in conjunction with some government official. We understand that they want to concession some of our harbours, I hope that is not true anyway”.

Comrade Ayuba however stated the plan was still a rumour but would be strictly resisted when it came up.”These are the rumours we are hearing, it has not come to the fore and will not because it is going to be resisted. What happened to the one they concessioned? These people want to put the collective wealth of the nation into few hands; they want to continue to feed on our sweat. We are carrying out our duties effectively and any effort on the part of any individual or individuals to sell part of our port is totally unacceptable”

He added that the after-effects of further concessioning  of the ports would be detrimental to the workforce. “You know what will happen if the ports are further concessioned? There will be disengagement and eventually at the end of the day, they will put many people back to the labour market again, thus furthering the social menace in our society”.

Ayuba said that the people behind the concessioning  rumousr were doing it for selfish reasons and personal aggrandizements.

Ayuba who was recently elected as the SSACTAC Chairman, Maritime branch, said that his first priority was to make sure that the members got better welfare packages in the form of better toilet facilities, new buses to convey staff to and from work and a staff canteen.
