Lagos Govt Diverts Traffic On Mile-2, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Badagry For 15-Months
The Lagos State Government announced a traffic diversion at Mile 2, effective from Monday, November 11, 2024, through Monday, February 16, 2026, to facilitate the construction of a new Transport Interchange Terminal.
The terminal, designed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), will integrate rail, bus, water, and non-motorised transportation, marking a significant step towards improved urban mobility in Lagos.
The traffic diversion will affect two critical loops at Mile 2: Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane. In light of this, motorists are encouraged to use designated alternative routes:
• Oshodi to Apapa: Motorists travelling from Apapa to Oshodi, and vice versa, will maintain through traffic access.
• Apapa to Badagry: Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa should continue on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, turn onto Akinwande Road to connect to Coker, and then access the Lagos-Badagry Expressway to proceed with their journey.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured the public that the diversion routes will be marked with clear signage to help motorists navigate smoothly.
Additionally, officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed along these routes to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions.
“This closure is part of the larger traffic management strategy to support the construction of the Transport Interchange Terminal, a project that will ease congestion and transform transportation in Lagos. We urge motorists to cooperate with the interventions in place,” said Mr. Osiyemi in the statement.
The Ministry of Transportation is encouraging drivers to exercise patience and to follow the marked routes and guidance provided by LASTMA personnel.
