Transport minister eyes stronger rail system
Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo

The Minister of Transportation, Muazu Sambo, is targeting a stronger railway system for the country, especially as the current administration winds down gradually.

During a courtesy visit with his team to the railway headquarters in Lagos on Thursday, Sambo stated that he was impressed with the level of progress recorded on the project.

He applauded the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for reviving the railway system in the country.

He praised the former Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, for his unflinching commitment towards ensuring the actualisation of the standard gauge railway to enable Nigerians to enjoy dividends of democracy.

He said, “I wish the incoming government will continue with the progress in the rail sector which we are all proud of presently.

“My gratitude goes to my predecessor for all he has done while in office. Even his enemies admitted to his commitment towards achieving success in the rail sector.

“My predecessor had left an indelible mark. Although we have limited time, we have vowed to continue where the former minister stopped.

“We have been receiving support from the management of the railway, but we hope it will be sustained to enable us to create an enabling environment for business to strive and reduce time of doing business.”
