The Senior Staff Association of Communications, Transport and Corporations (SSACTAC) has urged the new Managing Director (MD) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero to carry critical stakeholders along in the operations of the Authority if he wants to succeed in his new office.

Speaking with MMS Plus Weekly in his office in Lagos, last week, the Deputy President General (DPG) of the association, Com. Umar Omeiza said that the association would also give its support to the MD where necessary.

“He should carry everybody along in the maritime because that will make his work perfect.

“We will cooperate with him but the welfare of workers must not be toyed with because those that did that had nothing to go out with, he said.

Omeiza also berated the government for the inconsistent policies that mar the potentials of the sector where agreements are NOT respected and the plight of workers not given its proper acknowledgement.

When asked of his expectation of the incoming government of General Muhammadu Buhari, he called on all Nigerians to play their parts to usher in the much desired change that the country has clamoured for.

Speaking further, he enjoined Nigerians to shun ethnic, religious sentiments and work towards a common goal that will move the country forward.

In his words, “We Nigerians have a greater role to play, it is not about who is coming in, it is about us changing our attitudes.

“We should obey the laws of the country and value education and ensure that professionalism takes the lead in all facets of our lives and sectors,” he added.

Continuing, Omeiza said the government should fix electricity failure, which he stated would be a replay of the previous government.

“We cannot break even where you have to put on generator day and night to run your business,” he said.

Speaking further, he said a concise transport policy involving road and rail and infrastructural development will help the nation to grow, adding that without the reforms,”We can’t get things right.”
