Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has kicked against the proposed introduction of empty container positioning fees by some shipping lines in the country.

The Council made this position known in a recent press release signed by the management.

It read; “The attention of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has been drawn to the Notice issued by some shipping lines to shippers on the introduction of empty container positioning fee with the effect from 1st July, 2018.

“This is to inform the general public that Nigerian Shippers’ Council has not approved the proposed fee and therefore cannot be levied or charged. However, the Council is discussing with the shipping companies and agencies on this matter.

The Council advised all port users, shippers and other agencies to take note of its position as such charges would be illegal.
