Police Seeks Stakeholders’ Cooperation For Port Security

In a frantic effort to curtail importation of arms and ammunition into the country especially at the electioneering campaign period, the maritime police have sought synergy with stakeholders in the maritime industry for the successful achievement of the feat.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of maritime, Mrs. Kalafite Helen Adeyemi in company of some high ranking officers in the Western port command including the Commissioner of police, Mrs. Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison visited some stakeholders in the command to seek synergy against importation of harmful goods into the country.

According to the AIG, the officers and men of the command are expected to discharge their duties with integrity and to avoid performance betrayal in order for the force to achieve its set goals.

At the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), she solicited for assistance for the officers to carry out their duties effectively even as she asked that the men be well sensitized and given the sense of belonging

“I appreciate you for your cooperation with the police. The police police will keep the society secure and safe. You are free to appeal to my office for any matter not properly handled,” she said

She added that the success of 2015 elections rests on the shoulders of all the stakeholders and the police adding, that all should be vigilant against importation of materials that could be used to forment troubles in the forth-coming elections.

Speaking further, she said the command had submitted request for additional men in the port and would soon take delivery of them so that they could help to give more efficiency to the policing of the port environment.

The entourage visited the Apapa command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Western Port headquarters of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), the Apapa port police command and the headquarters of the NPA, Marina, Lagos.
